RBC- Director, Cloud Architecture Strategy & Planning

What is the opportunity?

This role is pivotal in driving RBC’s Multi-Cloud Cloud Program through a program management and delivery focused approach. This role reports to the Chief Cloud Architect and will significantly influence the future of RBC’s Cloud Program. In this multi-disciplinary role, you will provide leadership on engaging the program’s stakeholders, including senior executive sponsors, peer delivery teams/leaders, and Cloud ‘customers’ across the Enterprise.

You will enhance and execute the Cloud Architecture Program that will support the Cloud program in achieving impact and adding value by powering innovation across RBC. You will be responsible for coordinating the Cloud Architecture team resources across multiple cloud initiatives. You will enable the business to implement innovative cloud capabilities by coordinating with multiple stakeholders including Business, Application Development, Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Security, Infrastructure and Data.

You will operate the Cloud Architecture Governance Processes to ensure that stable, reliable platforms are designed, there are appropriate uses of the platform and drive reuse of cloud technologies and patterns. You will manage the Cloud Architecture Review Board and enable approvals and decisions. You will ensure that the standard Cloud Technologies, Reference Architectures and Patterns are identified and registered for consumption by the projects.

You will support the Data organization on their journey to cloud. You will support defining RBC’s Data strategy as it pertains to Cloud environments. You will collaborate with the Data organization to document the architecture and principles. You will provide Product Management support for the Cloud Data plane (data movement, security, information management) product and manage and prioritize the backlog of features with the Data team.

You will partner with the DevOps team to automate CI/CD activities as it pertains to multi-cloud deployments, fully unlocking Developer productivity.

You will drive awareness of the Cloud program across RBC, in partnership with the Cloud Engineering Team and in alignment with the broader Innovation and Technology, and Technology and Operations strategies, and you will partner with peer T&O leads to deliver to senior leadership reporting requirements. You will establish measurement systems to demonstrate the value and impact of the Cloud Architecture program

What will you do?

  • Ensure the flawless delivery of Cloud Architecture Services for RBC
  • Prioritize and plan the Cloud Architecture initiatives
  • Manage Stakeholders, track issues and communications
  • Provide metrics and measurements to demonstrate the impact and value of the Cloud Architecture Program
  • Develop, execute and maintain a comprehensive strategic communication and organizational change management plan for Cloud that addresses all stakeholders, including senior executives and broad enterprise audiences
  • Provide strategic communications advice and counsel to the Cloud senior management members
  • Manage monthly communications between Cloud and Technology & Operations senior leadership
  • Manage the monthly communications to the Cloud Executive Steering Committee, ensuring key challenges and overall progress are effectively and transparently communicated
  • Partner with Cloud team members to design and implement a Cloud Marketing strategy, to build broad awareness of the Cloud program across the Enterprise
  • Manage the Cloud Architecture Governance Process including the Cloud Architecture Review Board, Cloud Technology Governance and engagements on Cloud Architecture significant projects.
  • Support and manage the Data Plane Product backlog with the Data Team

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 2-3 Years of Cloud Program experience
  • 5-7 Years running large Technology Programs and communications planning experience in large corporate environments
  • 5-7 years of technical writing experience and expertise communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Executive communication experience
  • Previous consulting experience, particularly in change management
  • Stellar Visual design, oral and written presentation skills
  • Architecture/Information-Technology knowledge or experience
